Defence Department censors documents on torture-related directive

An access to information request for a ministerial directive on how the Canadian Forces handles information that could put someone at risk of torture, has come back heavily censored. The information request was filed by the Canadian Press in 2014, and the returned documents were marked unclassified, though key parts were blacked out. The directive applies to several security agencies such as RCMP and CSIS. It has received criticism from human rights advocates that it goes against international law on torture.
