Student anti-austerity protest ends with arrest

A student protest against austerity that kicked off two weeks of demonstrations ended in teargassing and several arrests by police. Students from Concordia University and local CEGEPs marched in downtown Montreal, changing their route when intercepted by police, who declared the march illegal for not having an approved route before beginning the march. Police intercepted the protest again on Rene Levesque Blvd., using tear gas on the crowd. At least one protester was arrested.
