The Wilderness Committee sued by Taseko Mines for defamation

11:50 Jan 19 2015 Vancouver Island, Strathcona Regional District, British Columbia, Canada

Description
Non-profit organization The Wilderness Committee is going to court against Taseko Mines for allegedly defamatory comments they made on Taseko’s New Prosperity Mine in 2012. The Wilderness Committee had released documents online that claimed the mining project would pollute nearby Fish Lake and Little Fish Lake. Taseko requested the comments be taken down but were refused. Taseko is now seeking damages and the removal of the comments.

Several op-eds have claimed that this case is a SLAPP suit meant to stifle public criticism against mining.
