Description
The Canadian Press has been unable to get an interview with Fisheries and Oceans Canada scientist Max Bothwell on an algae known as "rock snot" due to a number of government-imposed hurdles. In May 2014, the CP requested to interview Bothwell, which had to be approved by the Communications Division of Environment Canada, a process which generated "110 pages of emails to and from 16 different federal government communications operatives," in order to come up with an approved script for the interview. There has been speculation that the government is attempting to restrict access to Bothwell because rising levels of "rock snot" are indicative of climate change.
